Targhee Trip

I am just going to write about my recent snowboarding trip to the Targhee Resort in Wyoming, This is not a review of the slopes or anything, but rather a summary of the events that took place.

I went with a one of my buddies from my church and we met up with some of his friends. Well, I found out that I was the only one on a snowboard! Awkward, but I have no regrets. I took a 2 year break from boarding as I was on a service mission for my church, but I thought I could pick up right where left off, on the double black diamonds. Well, I soon realized I was not up for the challenge. My board is more for park riding, not fresh powder, as we had just gotten a foot of snow the previous night. So, with that being said, my board, being shorter already and not to mention I have grown 2–3 inches since I last used it, it got caught a lot. So I fell, a lot.

There were 2 falls that I remember the most. The first was on my third run of the day. I was following my friends down the side of the trail heading towards a jump when my front edge caught a big pack of powder. That launched my forward and after I stopped rolling, I found that I had broken my binding. My bottom strap broke off and was lost in the snow somewhere. I finished that run and then let my friends talk me into going on one last one, possibly 2 if I held up. I agreed. So we make it to the top and I told them I would stick to the trail and meet them at the bottom. Well on my way down, I decided to “send it” (meaning I was going to go as fast as possible) for whatever reason. I was going good for a while, that is, until my foot slipped from my binding and I, yet again, launched a good 10 or 15 feet, landing directly on the right side of my face. I got up in a daze, but holy cow did my head hurt. I thought I had broken my goggles, which wouldn’t be particularly great because thy were my brothers. All was well in the end and nothing was broken besides my pride!

It was an amazing trip and I met some great people. Now I just need a new board, bindings and more common sense and I will be back out again!
