Diverging Ideas

Ideation Phase

The purpose of ideation was to converge towards a clear concept that explores and addresses the opportunities identified in Phase 1. It also involved utilizing the outcomes from developing user scenarios towards ideating solutions that could serve to fulfill user needs. The common themes from secondary and primary research surrounding lack of engagement, increase in isolation (physically and digitally) and decrease of communication due to more technical barriers being introduced on a digital platform. The concepts I produced aimed to bring collaboration, self exploration/self discovery and interactivity onto an online learning experience. As these goals were substantial, ideation was hard to begin with initially.

Learnings

Through ideating various concepts, I was able to explore issues and opportunities through design. Some of these concepts aimed to support a desired activity from the students or to provide opportunities that do not exist for users to explore. Since the project was meant to enhance a digital learning landscape, many of my concepts involved designing a UI/UX experience that would support and facilitate active learning in an online class. From this ideation phase I was able to converge on a proposed solution to explore further going into the testing and evaluation phase. Additional research was needed to uncover points where I needed more justification or clarity on the feasibility of my concept.

Next Steps

From this phase, I was able to converge towards a clear concept, however leading into more conceptualization, I will need to ideate on possible physical components that will be involved in my final design. As next steps, I will need to conduct more research in order to see what current products are out there (that are trying to achieve similar outcomes) and where my project can fit within the scope of those products.
